Who's that boy? (Who's that booooy?) It's Lanyon! In the tiny bits of lore that I had put out about The Glass Scientists before its release, there was precious little about Dr. Lanyon, and I've gotten the occasional reader question along the lines of: "Who is this Lanyon guy? Why are people talking about him?" Well, Dr. Lanyon is one of the main supporting cast of Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, one of Jekyll's former besties from (I think?) university who had a mysterious falling out with him some ten years ago after Jekyll's ideas grew too . . . "fanciful" for his tastes. For that reason, Lanyon has often been cast as a scowling, conservative killjoy standing in the way of scientific progress, but the novella describes him quite differently. The original Lanyon is a bright, friendly, dapper kinda guy, and it is on this version of the character that I based my Lanyon. With that said, the people who recognize this guy's face most likely know him from Bleeding Heart, where he played the integral role of Not Super Into This Werewolf Crap. Brief life update: I am still roadtripping back to Los Angeles and have just passed Carmel! I don't think I really "got" Carmel (is it the beaches? the mission? maybe I'm just biased against Spanish mission architecture) but the previous night I stayed at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel, which was amazing! My bunkbed looked out directly onto the crashing waves and there was a lovely wooden walkway you could take to stand right out at the cliffs. I've had lots of good hostel experiences but honestly this one might be my favorite. Hostels! *jazz hands*
