Infinity Stairs Part II: I’m Trying My Best :’)

The visualization of Jekyll’s mind as a possibly infinite space that is largely inscrutable even to himself (or, in this case, the part of him that is Hyde) draws from a few sources of inspiration: 1) the author of the memoir My Stroke of Insight describing the experience of trying to access memories that–while not entirely gone–feel locked away in cabinets somewhere in her mind, 2) the mechanics by which Haruki Murakami expands time inside the head of his protagonist in Hard Boiled Wonderland at the End of the World. 3) the boyfriend, who said something like, “What if Hyde goes searching for clues in some kind of visualized version of Jekyll’s mind?” and 4) ummmmmm Yu-Gi-Oh.

There’s an episode in Yu-Gi-Oh! where Dark Bakura wanders around Bakura’s mind* for ???? reason (there probably was a reason, I just don’t remember what it was). Dark Bakura was my fav. Hyde is kind of like Dark Bakura but with slightly less confusing hair geometry and way, way less card games.

*VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE: I think Dark Bakura was actually wandering around the “inside” of Yugi’s Millennium Puzzle. Well, wouldn’t be the first time I drew inspiration from something I just remembered totally wrong.
